How to prevent acne under a protective facemask

*Here are some tips for keeping your skin clear while wearing a protective face mask*

The need to wear a protective face mask these days can cause issues for anyone, especially those with acne-prone skin.

Let’s be honest we all hate wearing it but for a while, it is for our best interest to protect ourselves and give others a piece of mind.

While these protective masks are meant to protect us from viruses they can be very damaging to our skin and easily cause acne and other skin irritations.

In today’s video I’m explaining why you may be breaking out under your face mask and offer my favorite product choices to help keep your skin clear.

There are three main reasons why you are breaking out under your mask.

  1. Loss of Oxygen: The first is that the mask is blocking fresh oxygen from coming into contact with your skin and deprive the skin of nourishment. Oxygen helps to deliver essential nutrients to the skin and brightens the complexion. It is also very beneficial to kill the P acne bacteria that can contribute to your breakouts cannot survive in a well-oxygenated environment.
  1. Fungal Infection: The second reason you could be breaking out under your mask is a fungal infection. Because you are breathing into the mask all day, a lot of excess moisture gets trapped between the protective mask and the skin. Fungus thrives in a moist environment and can easily cause a type of acne called folliculitis.
  1. Irritation from friction: The third reason for breaking out while wearing your mask is irritation or inflammation from the friction where the mask is rubbing the same spot on your face repeatedly.

This constant friction can irritate the delicate skin surface and leave red marks, or little     acne-like bumps on the area. The best way to avoid these types of breakouts is to apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the lining of the mask.

So in order to prevent acne under a face mask you need 3 things:

  1. Oxygenating products
  1. Anti-fungal products and
  2. Vaseline or Aquaphor to apply on the areas where the mask is most rubbing to your skin.

My favorite products to use under a protective face mask are:

PoreInfusion Mandelic Wash:  this cleanser contains mandelic acid to gently exfoliate and cleanse the skin. It is also antibacterial and antifungal so it washes away any traces of fungal related irritations on the skin. Use it as part of your morning and evening routine when you’re forced to wear a face mask all day. Excellent gentle exfoliating cleansers to help prevent acne, lighten pigmentation and acne scars.

PoreInfusion Oxygen Serum – this lightweight serum helps to deliver oxygen molecules directly to your skin. It helps to fight off the bacteria that cause acne and create a brighter skin complexion.  It can be used AM and PM. You can never get enough oxygen!

PoreInfusion Mandelic Serum 5 – this gentle exfoliating serum helps to lighten and brighten the skin and has the antifungal properties of mandelic acid to combat acne and any fungal or candida related breakouts.

PoreInfuson Oxygen Mask is a great hydrating mask that will oxygenate your skin and created a supple,  hydrated skin complexion for the next day.
