If you have ever woken up with a big inflamed pimple that seemed to form overnight, you can relate to my story. It can happen to any of us, even if you have the perfect skincare routine and didn’t do anything different. There are many underlying causes of occasional acne breakouts and today I want to share with you my best tips on how to get rid of a pimple as soon as possible.
There are a number of steps you can take to reduce inflammation caused by a pimple:
1.Remove Makeup and Cleanse Your Face.
It is important to thoroughly remove your make up before you treat your skin. By removing any makeup residue from the skin you will help prevent the spreading of bacteria and create a clean surface to work on. I like Sensitive Skin Wash to deeply cleanse the skin and remove make up.
2. Apply Ice.
Press an ice pack (my favorite is the Envision Refreezable Ice Pack) to your skin for 20-30 seconds at a time. This will help reduce the inflammation faster and suppress your pimple or cyst.
Try the Envision Refreezable Ice Pack
3. Apply a Spot Treatment.
I used the PoreInfusion Spot Treatment Active. This is one of my favourite spot treatments as it has 10% benzoyl peroxide and a little sulphur which works fantastically on inflamed or cystic breakouts. But you do have to use it carefully! Because this formula is pretty potent make sure to only apply the tiniest amount of treatment directly onto the pimple itself then leave to dry overnight.
Try PoreInfusion Spot Treatment
4. Cover with a Silicon Acne Patch.
When you are ready for bed, seal a silicon patch over the skin to help suppress your pimple. My personal favourite silicon patch is the Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch as it contains no salicylic acid or other exfoliating acids so it is very gentle on the skin . You can apply this over your spot treatment and leave it on overnight.
Try the COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch
5. Take extra Zinc!
Zinc is an excellent anti inflammatory supplement especially great to reduce inflamed, cystic breakouts.. My favorite is OptiZinc from Source Naturals because it has the best absorption rate for the body and a high quality formula. When dealing with inflammation you can take up to 100mgs of Zinc per day with food.
6. Wake up and remove the silicon patch to reveal your drastically reduced pimple!
By following these exact steps I reduced my pimple by more than half its original size overnight. . It was barely visible and I was able to cover it up with my favorite PRIIA foundation which was especially formulated for acne prone skin.
