If you are acne prone, you probably having a hard time finding products that won’t clog your pores and break you out. There are thousands of products sitting on the shelves claiming to be non-comedogenic, dermatologist approved , hypoallergenic etc. Even though these claims sound very promising and safe for applying it to your skin, so many people still break out or have an allergic reaction to these products.
What do these fancy phrases mean and can you trust them?
The truth is that they don’t mean much of anything. Product claims used by manufacturers are not regulated in any way by the beauty industry or by the Food and Drug Administration. In fact, there is no official standard by which these terms can be measured or tested – so essentially, any company can claim that their products are “non-comedogenic” or “dermatologist-approved” regardless of what is actually in the product or how the product was tested.
A skin care product that is labeled “dermatologist-approved” or “dermatologist-tested” only means that at least one dermatologist tried it and liked it. It does not indicate that the product was tested in an independent laboratory on actual people, or what credentials the Dermatologist actually has who tried it and approved it.
So, how can you trust the products you buy?
Check the ingredients label. Although it could be a little time consuming sometimes to go through all the ingredients listed on the back of the product, it is worth it. The cosmetic industry sells a lot of fluff, pretty looks, sweet scents, and attractive packaging. Some of these products contain pore-clogging waxes, drying alcohols, heavy oils, and ingredients that can flare up acne. You have to be your own acne detective and make sure to check the product before you put it on your skin. Below see the list of all the pore clogging ingredients used in cosmetics.
If you find it to be very confusing to choose the right products for your skin, look for a professional acne specialist who can recommend Acne Safe Products for you that will help clear your skin and won’t clog your pores.
