The best supplements for acne prone skin

Opti-zinc-5x5 While I’m generally suspicious of natural supplements that claim to cure acne, I’m also well aware of how nutrition can affect the health of your skin. Some nutrients have well-known benefits for the skin and if you’re not getting enough from your diet, supplements can be a great way to make these additions.

Vitamin D – This nutrient helps clear acne by stimulating the production of cathelicidin and defensins. These peptides support the immune system in fighting off acne-causing bacteria. They also help regulate the skin’s oil production. Because the body needs sunlight to produce vitamin D, supplementation is especially useful if you are avoiding getting too much sun exposure or live in a climate with long, dark winters. Be careful of taking too much, though. The recommended daily allowance is no more than 600 IU.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) – One of the B-complex vitamins, vitamin B5 is naturally found in wide variety meat, legumes, vegetables, and grains. Vital for the health of your nervous system, brain, and several other body functions. Vitamin B5 also supports skin health. If your diet isn’t as well-balanced as it should be, adding this supplement could help clear up acne.

Omega-3 – In addition to supporting heart and brain health, this fatty acid helps clear up acne by reducing excess skin oil production and soothing inflammation. Omega-3 is found primarily in deep sea fish and certain seeds, so if those aren’t among your favorite foods, it’s likely you’re not getting enough. If you decide to supplement, I’d advise against algae oil supplements, which contain high levels of iodine that could worsen your acne.

My favorite is OmegaVia high quality, prescription strength fish oil supplement. The OmegaVia fish oil capsules are therapeutic quality and are enteric coated to help assimilate the omega-3s in the most efficient way possible. In addition, they are formulated not to have a fishy after taste and are guaranteed burp free.

Probiotics – The health of your digestive tract affects the health of your entire body. To function correctly, your digestive tracts needs a microbiome of good bacteria. Probiotics, which occur naturally in many foods, are live bacteria and yeasts that support a healthy digestive system. Adding a high-quality probiotic supplement to your diet can help decrease excess skin oil production and start healing cystic acne in just four weeks.

Zinc: – Scientific studies shows that people with acne have lower levels of zinc in their body. Since almost 1/3 of the population are zinc deficient it’s absence is affecting more and more people, especially the ones who suffer from acne.

Zinc is an essential trace mineral that plays a significant role in your overall health. It helps balance your hormones and accelerates the production on Vitamin A in the skin. The best type of zinc for clearing up acne is OptiZinc which contains a form of zinc monomethionine.

OptiZinc is a natural supplement that is a perfect substitute for antibiotics. It works just as efficiently without destroying the natural gut flora. The reason I picked OptiZinc as our preferred zinc supplement, because it contains Zinc Monomethionine which has the best absorption rate for the body and other beneficial minerals such as copper.
